Maryland CASA Announces New Board President

Maryland CASA Announces Jacqueline (Jackie) Bowie as Board President  (Baltimore, MD. August 1, 2022) – Bowie, a resident of Baltimore County, Maryland, is the Board Engagement Director for the National Aquarium in Baltimore, Maryland. At the Aquarium, Bowie leads Board operations and serves as the internal governance expert for the organization.  During Bowie’s time at the National Aquarium, she has been awarded the Employee Excellence Award, Outstanding Octopus Award, and the Frank A. Gunther, Jr. Community Service Award. Bowie earned her Bachelor of Science in Biology from Bates College and a Master's degree in Environmental Law and Policy from Vermont Law School. Her vast experience extends across the arenas of environmental welfare and female activism. She plays a key role in her local Baltimore community and advocates for organizations including serving as a Mentor for Outstanding Young Women’s Leadership, and as a Member of the Association of Zoos & Aquariums Advancement Committee, and serves as a Board Member for TALMAR, the Joseph and Vera Douglas Family Foundation, and Minorities in Aquariums and Zoo Sciences.  Bowie joined the Maryland CASA Board in 2020 and said her motivation to serve on the Maryland CASA Board is grounded in her belief in the organization’s mission and her desire to find safe, permanent homes for abused and neglected children and youth in Maryland. In her leadership position with the board, Bowie hopes to build and retain Board talent and support staff through the leadership changes.   Bowie is a licensed scuba diver, an avid reader, and lives in Baltimore County with her husband Joe Starnes and their four cats, Tick, Badger, Quibbler, and Watson.   About Maryland CASA Association  Maryland (CASA Court Appointed Special Advocates) Association is the statewide organization for 14 local CASA programs that recruit and train volunteers to advocate for children in the child protection system.
